Get connected to the network

When it comes to running a business, you learn quickly that it’s not just about the service you offer or the product you sell or make. It’s bigger than that.

You can’t just turn up, put in the standard hours and then get your coat on at 5.

When you work for yourself, you’re responsible for every part of what you do.

There’s a wealth of different jobs to do to ensure you thrive –  and doing it alone can be a bit daunting.

The good news is, if you’re a Fife businesswomen there are a variety of networking groups you can join.

And in our first edition of The Queendom, we popped along to one of them – MIBA Network – run by the lovely Annie Crow.

The group meets regularly at Robertson’s Café in Kirkcaldy and from the moment you arrive, you know it’s not going to be the same as any of the awkward networking events you’ve perhaps experienced in the past.

From the wonderful goodie bag on the table, just for you, to the informal, friendly atmosphere, Annie has managed to create a group who support, empower and enable each other to do their best business.

She said: “MIBA was started 2 years ago by 2 sisters and has been so successful that they are now going international!

“We know not everyone likes the traditional networking meetings and that often, for some of us who have children, the earlier breakfast meetings just don’t suit.

“So, we’ve created a group where we can support each other and help each other with our individual expertise.”

Everyone is welcome to come along – whether they are a long-established business, or someone thinking of starting up. As well as a guest speaker, there’s also an opportunity to chat informally with other women who attend instead of the “elevator pitch” which some find difficult.

Rosemary Armstrong, one of the members of MIBA Fife added: “This is the first group I’ve ever been to where I have felt relaxed and where I can speak honestly about any areas I need help with.”

“It’s a safe environment where there’s no competition, we are all equal.”
